Don Levy has been at the forefront of the entertainment industry’s digital transformation throughout his career as a senior executive in animation, visual effects, digital media, television, and movies. Levy spent 17 years at Sony Pictures Digital where he was instrumental in the establishment and growth of the studio’s visual effects, animation, post—production, and digital entertainment (games, mobile, online video, digital marketing) businesses. As a member of the senior management team, he was also involved in digital policy, corporate strategy, organizational development, marketing, communications, and many projects that spanned across Sony divisions.
He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the Television Academy. He is associated with the Entertainment Technology Center at USC, a research center and think tank associated with the School of Cinematic Arts, and is on the faculty of Boston University’s Los Angeles Program.
Levy formed Smith Brook Farm to advise media start-ups. Clients include Cosmic Forces which produced the Goosebumps mobile game, downloaded more than 3.5 million times and one of the first mobile VR games and Zerply, a marketplace for creative production talent in movies and games.
As a speaker, Levy’s TED Talk, delivered at TED in 2012, was recently named on the top 5 talks on filmmaking and storytelling. In 2014, he identified the challenge of separating fact from fiction in today’s media world at TEDxAthens. He just returned from The FMX Conference in Germany, where he curates a track on visual communications, and he is leading a session at Digital Hollywood on the relationship between space exploration and humanity.
